What the tracking system does in each NP clinical course

The consortium handbook builds the tracking system into every nurse practitioner practicum. You subscribe to whichever system your home school designates and keep paying for it through every NP practicum semester, which spans the whole Family Health or Psychiatric/Mental Health sequence.

What goes into it, according to the handbook

• Every patient contact hour and the practicum details that go with it
• A check on whether Southeastern already has a signed contract or letter of agreement covering the facility you have in mind, and the status of that paperwork
• Your clinical schedule, posted once faculty approve the letter of agreement and updated whenever dates change

Logs that hold up at the end of the semester

Your log is the record faculty grade against and the proof that you met the course's hours. The consortium's faculty handbook asks students to keep accurate records of clinical time and experiences, and the consortium treats invented or altered clinical entries as academic dishonesty under a zero-tolerance policy. A padded or backfilled log is an integrity case, not a clerical slip.

Three conditions decide which hours belong in the log. Time worked while your employer pays you never counts, even at your own facility, as clinicals where you work explains. MSN hours must happen in Louisiana. And the preceptor, site and schedule have to match what faculty approved.

Clean logs can pay off after graduation too. Louisiana's prescriptive authority rule allows qualifying graduate clinical practice to be accepted toward its practice-hour requirement, a point covered in Louisiana NP practice.

Site screening and the Board's eligibility rule

Southeastern's screening is rarely the last one. The consortium handbook says students who choose agencies requiring criminal background checks must meet those agency requirements and carry the cost themselves. Large systems now run this through their own platforms: according to their graduate student pages, Ochsner LSU Health has schools upload compliance documents in InPlace, and Ochsner Health's InPlace guide holds students out of clinicals at any Ochsner campus until every compliance item is complete.

State rules add a gate of their own. Under the Board's education rules, a record that would justify refusing a nursing license can also block enrollment in a clinical course, and the two handbooks point to that authority with different statute numbers: 11:921 in the consortium's, 37:921 in the DNP handbook, the latter being the nurse practice act's grounds section. If anything in your history could raise a question, bring it to the graduate coordinator well before your first clinical course. The Board's rules explains the framework.
