What the region guides hold
The guides follow the Louisiana Department of Health's nine regions. Each lists its parishes, towns and population, then goes through the hospitals and health systems under their present owners, separating those that post a process for NP students from outside schools from those that post nothing. Community health centers and federal shortage designations follow, because underserved parishes are often where a family or psychiatric practice has room for a student, and each guide closes by lining its settings up with Southeastern's Family Health and Psychiatric/Mental Health courses.

Questions Southeastern students ask
Do I have to train near Hammond?
No. Southeastern's graduate students choose preceptors where they live, anywhere in Louisiana. DNP students come to campus for orientation and the project defense, but clinical hours happen close to home.
Can I contact Ochsner providers about precepting me?
Ochsner's own clinical education page asks students not to reach out to its providers, clinicians or staff and takes requests only from schools through its platform. Talk to your course faculty about Ochsner, and look beyond it too.
Where do FNP students find pediatric hours?
Children's hospitals are only in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Shreveport, so most Southeastern students find pediatric hours for NURS 6820 in family practices, pediatric groups and school-based clinics near home. Each guide names the options in its region.
Are rural parishes covered?
Yes. Mental health shortage designations reach nearly every parish and primary care designations most of them, and the central, northeast and south central guides map the rural parishes and their community health centers.
