Southeastern NP clinicals in Monroe, Ruston and the northeast parishes
Northeast Louisiana runs from the Monroe metro to Delta parishes on the Mississippi, where Tensas holds the highest primary care shortage score in the state. Ochsner LSU Health Monroe takes NP requests only from schools, and St. Francis and Glenwood publish nothing for NP students, so for Southeastern Louisiana University students the openings sit mainly in health centers and practices. We search them parish by parish.

Twelve parishes around Monroe
The state health department's Region 8 groups Caldwell, East Carroll, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland, Tensas, Union and West Carroll. Their estimated July 2025 population was 343,390, down 2.3% from 2020. Ouachita, with Monroe and West Monroe, has 158,542 residents; Tensas has 3,700, the smallest parish population in Louisiana.
Ouachita, Morehouse, Richland and Union form the Monroe metro area. Lincoln is its own Ruston micropolitan area, and the seven others sit outside any metro, with Tensas at USDA rural code 9 and Caldwell, East Carroll and West Carroll at 8. Other towns include Bastrop, Tallulah, Lake Providence, St. Joseph, Rayville and Farmerville. Monroe lies roughly 218 road miles from the Hammond campus.
Ochsner LSU Health Monroe Medical Center
The former E.A. Conway hospital now operates as Ochsner LSU Health - Monroe Medical Center under Ochsner LSU Health System of North Louisiana, sharing one graduate nursing page with Shreveport. Everything moves through InPlace, where only a school's faculty member or coordinator can file a request and the school uploads compliance documents. The system expects an active affiliation agreement with the school, the nursing board's approval of the program for APRN clinicals, and an RN license good in Louisiana or a compact license.
Its academics team, not the student, settles who precepts. An informal yes from a preceptor is considered without being final, the page names its employees and highly rated graduate programs as priorities, and students are asked not to phone its providers or their offices. School entries are due no later than three months before a rotation.

St. Francis and Glenwood: landmarks without NP routes
St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe now carries FMOL Health's name: the system adopted a single brand in November 2025, and CMS lists the hospital as FMOL Health St Francis. A full check of FMOL's site map found education pages for medical residents, pharmacy residents, a psychology internship, continuing medical education and clinical pastoral education, but none for nursing or NP students.
Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe changed owners after Steward Health Care's bankruptcy, when a federal court approved its sale to Healthcare Systems of America in September 2024; the hospital's site now refers to HSA hospitals. Its information page never mentions students. Neither hospital posts a way in for NP students.
Community health centers from Bastrop to St. Joseph
HRSA's file (record date September 26, 2026) shows 65 active health center sites in Region 8. The school-based ones mostly follow the school year.

Tensas and the northeast shortage map
HRSA's September 2026 records give all 12 parishes a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) in primary care and another in mental health, on a 0 to 25 scale. Tensas's high-needs primary care score of 23 tops the state, and Morehouse's mental health score of 22 ties for the state's highest. West Carroll's primary care designation is proposed for withdrawal.

Which northeast settings fit which Southeastern course
You select the preceptor and site together with course faculty, whose approval comes before your first clinical hour (choosing your preceptor), and Louisiana puts most NP hours with an APRN certified in your population focus (who qualifies as a preceptor).

Questions Southeastern students ask
Is Glenwood Regional still a Steward hospital?
No. Steward sold Glenwood out of its 2024 bankruptcy, a federal court approved the sale to Healthcare Systems of America that September, and the hospital's site now speaks of HSA hospitals. It says nothing about NP students, so a placement there would rest on one preceptor, faculty approval and a university contract.
Who submits an Ochsner LSU Health Monroe rotation request?
The school. Requests go into InPlace from its faculty or coordinator, students have no access to it, and compliance documents are uploaded there by the school. Raise the site with course faculty early, since the fall deadline is May 1.
Does St. Francis Medical Center take NP students?
A September 2026 check of FMOL Health's site map found no nursing or NP student process for St. Francis or its sister hospitals. If a St. Francis APRN agrees to precept you, course faculty approval and the university's contract process decide the rest.
Is Ruston part of this region?
Yes. Lincoln Parish belongs to Region 8, though Ruston forms its own micropolitan area. The parish has 48,360 residents, a low-income primary care designation scored 18 and a mental health score of 20; Winn, Primary Health Services Center and Mercy Medical all list Ruston sites.
Where can a PMHNP student find hours near the Delta parishes?
Every Delta parish has a mental health shortage designation, so psychiatric preceptors are scarce. Health centers in Lake Providence, Tallulah and St. Joseph are a start, and Monroe's outpatient psychiatric practices widen the pool.
