Workday, Canvas, Okta and the rest: Southeastern's online tools for nursing students
Southeastern Louisiana University runs registration and student records in Workday, delivers its online courses in Canvas, and connects both, along with Gmail, through the Okta portal. Two retired names still turn up in nursing documents: LeoNet, gone since July 1, 2026, and Moodle, which the consortium handbook still mentions. This guide sorts out what is current, what each tool does, and where your clinical paperwork lives.

The tools at a glance
The graduate nursing page carries quick links to Canvas, Workday, the Okta portal, Gmail and the university calendar. Each one does a different job in a nursing student's week, and one more system, the clinical tracking system, sits outside that bar entirely.

Workday replaced LeoNet
Workday is where Southeastern keeps your student record. Through your Workday account you check your registration appointment time, build your schedule, register, and see grades, holds and tasks that need attention. Southeastern's LeoNet page now states that its PeopleSoft environments were decommissioned on July 1, 2026, so any handbook, syllabus or older email telling you to use LeoNet means Workday today.
Southeastern also says it gives students an academic planner and an online audit for tracking progress toward graduation, though its public pages do not name the tool inside Workday. Ask your advisor where it sits before registering for a clinical semester. An audit is a quick way to confirm that every prerequisite for your next Family Health or Psychiatric/Mental Health course is complete, since NURS 6820, for example, requires six earlier courses including NURS 6070, NURS 6170 and NURS 6180.

Canvas, and why the handbook says Moodle
Southeastern moved its online course delivery to Canvas in spring 2024, and the 2026-27 catalog asks graduate nursing students to own computer equipment that works with learning management systems such as Canvas. Southeastern's practicum courses combine an online didactic component with clinical time, so even a heavy clinical semester keeps you working in Canvas.
The consortium student handbook, including its October 2025 revision, still says all four member schools use Moodle, and a 2023 PMHNP certificate admission sheet says the same. Read those lines as history: at Southeastern the answer is Canvas. Because consortium courses can be taught by McNeese, Nicholls or UL Lafayette faculty, the consortium keeps its own Online Enrollment Form to place you in those courses, and its handbook asks every student in a consortium course to join an online orientation course the semester they register. If a course is missing from your dashboard after registration, the enrollment form is the first thing to check.
Okta and Gmail: your university account
Okta is the portal that ties your one university account to Canvas, Workday, Gmail and the other apps on Southeastern's quick-link bar. The Student Help Desk handles Okta trouble along with account and Canvas problems, so one contact point covers all three.
Gmail matters for clinicals, too. The consortium handbook requires every message to course faculty and to preceptors to go through your university email account. That covers the first note to a prospective preceptor, the back-and-forth over a schedule, and anything you send faculty about approval or the letter of agreement. Keeping the whole thread in one university inbox also gives you a clean record to forward when course faculty ask what a preceptor agreed to.
Southeastern's own pages show two email domains for the same offices, so an address on an older page may look different from a newer one.
Respondus Lockdown Browser and proctored exams
Some Canvas tests open only in Respondus Lockdown Browser, a secure browser Southeastern uses to discourage cheating and support academic integrity. Not every quiz uses it; the instructor or department decides. Install it on the computer you will test from, run a practice launch before exam day, and check the syllabus for which tests require it.
The catalog adds that graduate nursing students are assessed fees for proctored testing in online courses, on top of a professional program fee charged each semester, and that clinical courses carry laboratory fees. The catalog prints no amounts for any of them, so ask the graduate nursing office for current figures. Where clinical paperwork lives
Clinical hours have their own system. The consortium handbook has each student subscribe to the clinical tracking system their home school requires and keep that subscription through the nurse practitioner practicum courses. You use it to check whether Southeastern has a contract or letter of agreement with a facility you are considering, and once course faculty approve your student and preceptor letter of agreement, you post and update your clinical schedule there.
The consortium's 2022 evaluation plan names Typhon as the record of student clinical hours, and the 2018-19 DNP handbook names Typhon for DNP students. Southeastern's current pages do not name the MSN system, so confirm the name with course faculty before you subscribe. Canvas holds the course, Workday holds the registration, and the tracking system holds the hours. Once faculty approve your preceptor agreement, the handbook expects the clinical schedule posted there and kept current, not left in an email thread.

Questions Southeastern students ask
Is LeoNet still available at Southeastern?
No. Southeastern retired LeoNet and its PeopleSoft environments on July 1, 2026. Registration, schedules, grades and holds all live in Workday now. If an older handbook, syllabus or advising sheet sends you to LeoNet, do the same task in Workday, and ask your advisor if a step has no obvious Workday equivalent.
Does Southeastern use Moodle or Canvas for nursing courses?
Canvas. Southeastern began delivering online courses in Canvas in spring 2024. The consortium's student handbook and a 2023 PMHNP certificate admission sheet still mention Moodle, which reflects older practice. For consortium courses taught at another member school, the consortium's Online Enrollment Form is what places you in the course.
Do I need a webcam for Respondus at Southeastern?
Southeastern's Respondus page describes the Lockdown Browser, a secure testing browser, and says instructors decide which tests use it. It does not confirm webcam monitoring on the pages we read. Your syllabus and instructor set each exam's requirements, so check before test day and try your setup early.
Can I email a preceptor from my personal account?
The consortium handbook says no: all communication with course faculty and preceptors goes through your university email account. Use your Southeastern Gmail from the first contact onward, including scheduling and the letter of agreement, so the record stays in one place faculty can trust.
Where do I record clinical hours as a Southeastern student?
In the clinical tracking system your home school requires, which you subscribe to for the length of the practicum courses.
