Southeastern nursing accreditation: CCNE terms and the Louisiana State Board of Nursing

How the consortium master's is listed

Southeastern's MSN runs through the Intercollegiate Consortium for a Master of Science in Nursing with McNeese State, Nicholls State and UL Lafayette, and the CCNE directory lists the master's program both under the consortium and under Southeastern. Southeastern's accreditation page follows the same split: it names the baccalaureate and DNP programs as Southeastern's CCNE-accredited programs and describes the master's as the consortium's accredited program.

That split explains a line that can confuse readers. The RN to BSN and accelerated BSN pages mention only the baccalaureate and DNP programs as CCNE accredited, because the master's accreditation is filed with the consortium. Nothing is missing; the master's simply sits under a different name. The consortium guide explains how the four schools share the MSN.

The CCNE directory also still lists Southeastern under the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Since fall 2026 the unit has been the College of Nursing, with the School of Nursing inside it, so expect both names on official documents for a while.

The Louisiana State Board of Nursing's role

CCNE is a national accreditor. The Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN) is the state regulator, and its rules in Title 46 of the Louisiana Administrative Code govern nursing education programs in Louisiana. Southeastern's catalog describes both post-master's certificates as fully approved by the board.

The board's rules set much of the clinical frame Southeastern students work inside:

• Nursing faculty select and guide every student learning experience and evaluate the student, with input from preceptors.
• Every preceptor holds an active, unencumbered Louisiana RN or APRN license, and most nurse practitioner hours are with an APRN certified in the same population focus.
• One preceptor may take at most two graduate APRN students during a clinical experience, and faculty check in weekly with every preceptor and student pair.
• Written agreements between the program and each clinical agency spell out each side's rights and responsibilities, including liability coverage, and contain a termination clause.
• The board can limit, delay or deny a student's entry to the clinical phase on grounds that would bar licensure.

What accreditation means for your clinical year

Much of the structure in your clinical courses comes from the board's rules and the program's accredited curriculum: the stated hours in each Family Health or Psychiatric/Mental Health course, course faculty approval of every preceptor, the graduate coordinator's review, and a written agreement with every facility. Board exam eligibility follows the same logic: Southeastern ties it to successful graduation from the program as designed, which is one more reason each clinical course has to be completed in full.
